India lead the way 1–0 before the third test. England has been working hard to challenge to the no 1 team in Test Rankings. For example: India would have thought that winning the first test will be easy; as it was played in their own den. But English had other things in mind. The first test ended in a draw; India had to put lot of efforts to draw the test. Second test, was convincingly won by India.
When Alistar Cook was asked of his opinion on losing the second test; Cook believed losing a crucial toss can undermine your chances of winning a test match especially in Indian conditions. In second test India was able to pose a big total and batting in the fourth inning was quite difficult for England. In the third test England won the toss and elected to bat first. English were all out for 283. This was a below par score, as the subcontinent wickets will help the batsmen in the first two days. On the third day, it starts to deteriorate and can be a spinner heaven. In the first innings England lost five of its batsmen to seam bowlers than to spinner. England lacked the application, they should have tried staying in the middle rather than throwing the wickets away in a hurry.
Indian innings didn’t pan out to the liking of Virat Kohli. After loosing early wickets; it seemed as If India will fall short of the English total. Then India’s lower middle order came to rescue Ashwin, Jadeja and Jayant scored brilliant half centuries. England bowlers were overwhelmed when they were struggling for a breakthrough. This meant that the bowlers, fielders grew impatient as Indian lower order damaged the England team’s moral and resilience. So much so, before the last wicket fell England dropped almost half a dozen catches in two sessions. India scored 417 runs & English were put to the test. Apart from Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed another England batting collapse was apparent as the spinners were getting more help from the track. England was bundled out for 236. India required 105 runs to win the test match which they scored loosing two wickets. India won third test by 8 wickets.
It will be interesting to see how English blokes respond to the situation they are in.
