Once the cricket world cup was over; there was a Cricket Team which was making the headlines. First Pakistan toured Bangladesh and started the ODI series. Pakistan team faced a humiliating defeat in Bangladesh. They lost the series 3-0. After beating England, Bangladesh was writing new success stories. Then came the team India to visit the Bangladesh. One odd Test Match ended in draw. Then started the ODI Series.

June 18, 2015 – 1st ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (day/night)

This was the first ODI, played between Bangladesh and India. India haven’t played any ODI cricket whatsoever after they lost to Australia in the world cup. I believe this was a major problem because the Indian Bowlers tried bowling the same length which they were bowling in the World Cup. I am not taking any credit away from Bangladeshi’s batsmen who used the short length to their advantage. Eventually when everything was looking out of control from India perspective; Dhoni used the spin attack to apply the brakes. Eventually, Bangladesh went through the defense of Ashwin. Even Raina did very well; but it was the fast bowling which looked very ordinary. India was asked to chase 317.

If you look at the ODI records India is the only team which has successfully chased down the 300+ fifteen times.  The second best is Australia which successfully chased it eight times.  So, if there is one team in the cricketing world which can chase down 300+; it’s India. But unfortunately Indian batting was put to shame by the debutant Mustafizur, who had enormous talent to bowl Leg-Cutters, Off-Cutters, Slower Bowls which were used to devastating effect. Indian opener Rohit Sharma looked in control as he scored his half century, But then came slower one which took Rohit out of the occasion. Then Dhoni tried his best but India kept losing the wickets and eventually lost the match for 79 runs.

June 21, 2015 – 2nd ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (day/night)

This match was won by Bangladesh by their better bowling maneuvers. India did try to fight back but the score of 200 was very small. Indian spinners, Ashwin did get sharp turn & at one time Bangladesh was struggling 98 for 3. But then came Shakib Al Hasan & Mushfiqur who started building the inning. There were plenty of balls left to chase the target; they batted beautifully picking the singles and doubles. They avoided unnecessary risk and turned the tide in to Bangladesh favor.  Just in four days, India lost the first bilateral series against India by 2-0. A very disappointing day for the Indian Cricket.

June 24, 2015 – 3rd ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (day/night)

The stage was set for a Bangla Wash. Bangladesh was not ready to give an inch. The so called kids became tigers after they won the ODI series 2-0. So, the third match meant nothing for Bangladesh as they have already won the series. India on the other hand nothing to win, they probably wanted this win as a consolation. But eventually, India won the match for denying Bangladesh a Banglawash. Dhawan and Dhoni  setup a brilliant partnership which helped India setup a 317.  So, when pressure was applied by Dhawan and Ashwin, Bangladehi tigers lost their wickets.

Final Thoughts

India lost the series 1-2. But they avoided the 3-0 humiliation. The Star network who was the official broadcaster of the world cup , also held the rights of broadcasting this series.  There were two ad-campaigns which were run to promote the IND vs BAN match. The Bangladeshi crowd has been especially on edge as a result of the recent events between the two teams. Everyone remember the No-Ball event in the World Cup and the Mustafizur collided twice with Indian players. Then the ‘Mauka-Mauka’ and ‘Bachhe bachhe nahin rahe’ was not well received outside India. I believe India’s govt/BCCI needs to step up and stop all these ads which are mocking the opponent’s team. Also, we noticed how Bangladeshi crowd mocked the Indian supporter Sudhir Gautam.

Sudhir Said “When Bangladesh won, I was pushed around in the stadium, but I was okay. I just ran to gate No. 2, but it was very crowded and the public was booing India and singing mauka mauka. I ran from there to gate No. 1 where I had kept my bag, and exited the ground. By the time I reached the salon, the whole public jumped on me, and the salon had to pull the shutters down for 10 minutes. But on the way people snatched my flag, tugged at my pants, my ponytail, basically behaved indecently.

Bangladesh cricket may have been on the rise; But it will take some decades before the Bangladeshi crowd start behaving the way human should. Their captain was the biggest example of not respecting his players. He did lot of shouting, arm waving, verbal feud with his own players forget about the others. Remember when Litton das didn’t appeal in the third match for a caught behind. The Captain went on to register his dismay and displeasure on the cricketing ground which was unfortunate.
